Alphabet Commits $15bn to Establish AI Data Hub in the Indian Subcontinent
The parent firm of Google the Alphabet conglomerate will invest $15 billion to establish an AI computing facility in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
This center, which will be set up in the coastal city of the city of Visakhapatnam, is going to be a component of Google's international system of AI centers distributed over twelve different countries.
"It stands as the greatest artificial intelligence center that we plan to invest in anywhere in the world, excluding the United States of America," Thomas Kurien stated at an event in capital Delhi on Tuesday, mentioning that the funding will be spread across the coming five years.
This declaration arrives during a period US President Donald Trump has been asking US firms to give priority to local funding.
India's Increasing Significance in Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure
The country has risen as a key destination for AI data centres. India's inexpensive data services and quickly expanding digital audience have made it a center for expansion of cloud and artificial intelligence for technology leaders.
"This center will introduce our pioneering tech solutions to companies and individuals in the nation, speeding up AI innovation and driving growth nationwide," stated Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.
Project Details
An official contract to finalise the initiative is set to be signed on Tuesday, state authorities announced.
"It is a significant advancement for the digital progression of our state, innovation, and international reputation," remarked the minister for technology Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.
The venture will merge AI and cloud systems with sustainable power solutions and an broader fiber-optic system.
The State's Data Hub Strategy
This initiative is part of the state government's strategy to establish 6GW of computing facility capacity by 2029.
