Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Victorious Performance at Athlos Meet in New York
Hodgkinson recorded her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in London.
The Olympic champion concluded her 800m campaign with a win at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday evening.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the World Championships recently, dominated an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a season impacted by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably easier for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.
"The environment at the event is crazy so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive event filled the stadium in its second year, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with live music and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is married to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to award the winners with their crowns.
Previous champions received $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.
American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
