'Living a Nightmare': Loved Ones of Missing Teenagers Await Information After Alpine Fire
The relatives of teenagers missing after a tragic inferno at a establishment in a Switzerland's ski resort are confronting an agonising period of uncertainty for confirmed information and pleading for clues about their children via social media.
The fire devastated the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Confirmed video reveal the ceiling catching alight as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.
Emergency services have indicated that it could take an extended period to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and wounded another scores more. Authorities stated on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been accounted for, with efforts continuing to locate the remaining few.
In the interim, families and friends have been using the internet to request clues about their missing relatives who were in attendance that fateful night.
Appeals for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an appeal from his family.
The resident of Lutry near the city, informed a local newspaper that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but could not find him.
"This is a living nightmare, a horror. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She continued that some of his companions had been discovered with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured an absolute nightmare."
The Italian foreign ministry has indicated that six of its young people have not been located.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage junior golfer, originally from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "talented young man who embodied passion and true sportsmanship."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has clarified that a official announcement of his death is still pending.
Other Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His parent said that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the venue.
"Someone with him said they escaped after the fire erupted and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he lost sight of him," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his educators stated, "He was known for his kindness and positive demeanor, coupled with great maturity. Every time offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives full-time in the country, was also at the bar on that night, according to reports.
Her brother has published an urgent request online, saying the family has had "no news" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
