News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

An Important Reunion for Fans

The actors are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their appearance will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.

This signifies the sixth installment in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.

The Storyline and Fresh Faces

The film's story are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

• Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
